Journalism courses and journalism training
This website is designed to answer any questions you may have about journalism courses, journalism training and pursuing careers in journalism. It discusses what qualifications and qualities are required and includes an unbiased assessment of the different types of journalism training available.
Most of the advice is specifically targeted at those who are still at school, but is also relevant to postgraduate students and mature entrants, including those considering switching careers.
All the advice on the site is free, but journalism4schools also offers two excellent introductory journalism courses by distance learning which you may find helpful. Journalism training is expensive, so our
Starting Out In Journalism
course is designed to provide the cheapest practical opportunity to help you put your writing skills to the test, get some invaluable feedback and discover whether the business is for you.
For those who have already made that decision, our
Media Law for Beginners
course provides an invaluable grounding in the legal issues which are of concern to all writers – and which will provide you with a head start on whichever formal journalism training course you decide to pursue.
The rest of the website studies different ways of starting careers in journalism and provides information about the wide range of formal journalism courses available.
Journalism training is fragmented and very confusing for the uninitiated, so it’s easy to make the wrong choices. That’s one reason why this website exists – there’s nothing more frustrating that meeting young people who have been given poor advice and have spent a lot of money on journalism courses which do not prepare them properly for a writing career.
I hope you find the website useful and look forward to receiving your feedback.
